A Night to See the Past. Understand the Present. And Keep Memory Alive.

This November, Noches Casasola presents a special double anniversary edition: 114 years since the founding of the Casasola Archive (1912) and 50 years since the creation of the Fototeca Nacional of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) (1976).

The Casasola Archive, founded by Agustín Víctor Casasola at the dawn of the Mexican Revolution, is the most important visual archive of Mexico’s history. This archive was acquired by the mexican goverment in 1976, giving birth to the Fototeca Nacional in Pachuca, Hidalgo — today home to over 400,000 images that define the visual memory of Mexico.

For this edition, Noches Casasola will showcase a curated selection of original images from the Gustavo Casasola Collection, presented and narrated by Vania Casasola, great-granddaughter of Agustín Víctor Casasola and granddaughter of Gustavo Casasola Zapata. Gustavo Casasola — photojournalist, publisher and historian — was instrumental in preserving and organizing the archive his father began.

Vania continues the family’s legacy not only as keeper of the archive, but as a contemporary curator re-reading its images with a new lens:* women who were forgotten from history,* the train as a nation on wheels, everyday life beyond the battlefield, and the diversity of Mexico City.

Featured iconic images from the original collection:
