We attended the annual Korea’s Social Labor Responsibility meeting organized by South Korea in Mexico. This annual event showcases reports and proposals for the social initiatives undertaken by Korean companies established in Mexico, with the support of the Embassy of South Korea in Mexico, solidifying these efforts.
South Korea is undoubtedly a benchmark country with a forward-thinking vision for social work topics and we observed significant contributions from this nation to Mexico.
At a delightful breakfast at the Korean restaurant Andamiro in Polanco, Mexico City, we were welcomed by Hyemin Kim, the Economy Secretary of the Embassy, representing Ambassador, Huh Tae-wan who recognized allied companies working on agendas to enhance their commitments.
The 2024 activities included topics such as recycling, reforestation, donations to foundations supporting women and children with cancer, individuals with disabilities, and the provision of school supplies to high school and secondary students to help them develop projects addressing issues in their communities. These initiatives clearly demonstrate South Korea’s commitment to social and human responsibility, rooted in its values and carried out through its companies.
It is evident that South Corea, as a sovereign republic, is a step ahead in the nations where its brands operate. These actions highlight its diplomatic efforts and vision, identifying the Embassy of the Republic of Corea in Mexico as a key player in contributing to the Mexican community and society.
Thanks to its vision and commitment to our country, allied companies like Samsung Electronics Mexico, Hyundai, KEB Hana Bank México, and Asociados Constructores DBNR S.A. de C.V. stand as examples of the relevance of a foreign-established company contributing jobs, altruistic efforts, and significant initiatives. Their actions in Mexico provide a clear example and added value for other companies considering establishing themselves here and contributing to the nation.
The Trade and Investment Office of the Korean Embassy in Mexico (KOTRA), is South Korea’s leading agency responsible for the global expansion of its companies and opening new markets. «It is our daily mission to be involved in these actions for Mexico,» stated Moisés Juárez, Government Affairs and Projects Specialist.
Hyundai Motor Mexico CEO, Carlos Eduardo Carrasco, expressed that these initiatives are of great importance for the companies, their employees, and the communities in our country, stressing the need to give them maximum attention.
Younguk Jun, Administrative Manager of Samsung E&A, stated that for Samsung, it is crucial to collaborate on such efforts by Korean companies and always support these types of initiatives within the Mexican community.
Hyemin Kim, South Korea’s Economy Secretary in Mexico, emphasized the importance of their ongoing transition efforts and the need for substantial support to contribute to these social endeavors in Mexico.
KEB Hana Bank Mexico shared that since their establishment in Mexico six years ago, they have continuously sought to participate in social work opportunities for the community.
During this significant meeting, the most relevant topics discussed included the main challenges foreign companies face when carrying out their CSR activities in Mexico, such as cultural differences, regulatory compliance, building trust, economic inequality, and public perception in the country.
We hope other embassies are inspired to activate their social responsibilities and join these types of initiatives.
